Shared Spaces
Spaces shared among different campus and space types.
Workspace
Workspaces cater to both individual and collaborative work, providing specialized areas for research and group projects. They prioritize flexibility by offering various work options and strategies tailored to different work styles and operational needs. To enhance adaptability, some workspaces incorporate kinetic infrastructure, allowing them to transform and adjust based on employee and team preferences. This dynamic approach fosters creativity, efficiency and seamless collaboration in a constantly evolving work environment.

Building Amenities
A wide range of building amenities cater to a diverse array of users. These spaces support employee satisfaction, health, and productivity by providing conducive spaces for relaxation, collaboration, and personal well-being. Building amenities serve either the public or staff, depending on the program. Building amenities are shared spaces that should be dispersed across the building to encourage use and create a supportive and inclusive environment. Evaluate existing amenities and contemplate the addition of requisite ones to your project to ensure alignment with facility goals.
ViewCirculation
Circulation within a building is intricately designed to enhance the overall user experience, prioritize safety, and contribute to the functionality and coherence of the building’s design. It seeks to create an environment where individuals can navigate seamlessly, fostering a positive and efficient user experience.
ViewEntry
The entry is not merely a point of access but a crucial element that orchestrates the transition from the external environment to the internal space. It functions as the architectural interface that establishes the UCSF identity and sets the initial impression. A blend of aesthetics and functionality, the entry is designed to create a welcoming atmosphere that reflects UCSF’s ethos. It serves as a navigational hub for patients, staff, and visitors to different departments. Beyond aesthetics, the entry serves a practical purpose as a checkpoint for security, access control, and reception services, ensuring a smooth and organized flow of people in and out of the building.

Huddle Room
A huddle room is a meeting space designed for collaboration and quick discussions. Its primary function is to facilitate communication among small groups (typically 2 to 6 people) in a private, comfortable setting. The space is designed for impromptu collaboration use, and is not bookable ahead of time. There are two configurations: formal, with a central table for structured discussions and documentation, and informal, with casual seating to encourage creativity, comfort, and spontaneous brainstorming. These configurations cater to various meeting types, ensuring that each discussion is productive and aligned with the team’s goals.

Focus rooms provide employees with a quiet, distraction-free environment that enhances concentration, boosts productivity, and fosters innovation. These rooms offer privacy, allowing employees to take virtual calls, hold small (1-2 person) meetings, or do focused work. A telehealth room enables remote healthcare. It ensures confidentiality and minimizes distractions. The room is shared by several users with one person using the space at a time, maintaining a secure environment for the user and patient.

Lactation Room
Lactation rooms play a vital role in supporting staff, faculty, and students by providing a comfortable space for expressing milk after returning to work or school. The room may be used by staff and/or visitors, and should have proper signage to identify its use. Establish a clear distinction between visitor/public-facing rooms and internal rooms. The UCSF Lactation Accommodation Program manages lactation rooms and provides additional materials and equipment, such as pumps and fliers. There is one lactation room for every 50-100 female employees.
